Do iPhone Remote Apps Work with All TVs?

I started wondering if using my iPhone as a universal remote would solve that problem, but I’m not sure how well those apps work across different brands. Some apps claim to support everything, but I’ve had mixed experiences with that kind of promise before. Has anyone tried controlling multiple TV brands from one iPhone app? Does it really connect reliably?

I’ve tested this with a Samsung TV and a Roku device in my apartment, and it worked better than I expected. The trick is that most of these apps connect over Wi-Fi rather than infrared, so as long as the TV supports network control and both devices are on the same Wi-Fi, pairing is usually quick. I originally found a guide about using a Remote Control App iOS setup and followed the steps from there. After installing the app, it detected my Samsung automatically, and later I tried it with a Roku stick and it also connected. It basically gives you the same functions as a normal remote — volume, navigation, opening streaming apps, and switching inputs.
